We first met VCCP back in 2007 and we’ve been collaborating together ever since. Over the years, we’ve watched them grow into one of London’s leading advertising agencies and we have helped them expand their workspace within their Victorian beauty of a building, Greencoat House. 2021 brought new opportunities for change, they were ready to embrace a much more flexible approach to how and where people choose to work and with their motto in mind ‘it only works if it all works’, they realised that they needed to take a fresh look at how their workspace would support that.

The concept was to create a series of installations within the existing space that felt comfortable with the current design, but at the same time completely changing the landscape - a move away from desks and instead focusing on collaboration areas and spaces that enable hybrid working. A series of interventions creating alternative working areas were easy to implement, inexpensive and most importantly provided momentum for a change in behaviour, while allowing different departments and agency specialisms to put their own stamp on the space.

As part of the restack we managed to free up space that allowed them to consolidate other parts of the business, making Greencoat House a real destination building for everyone. VCCP wanted to carve out a dedicated space for Girl & Bear, ‘the makers of everything’. It had to be a cool hub that would capture the inner workings of the design process in a workshop environment, for individuals to come together in a dynamic way, providing the freedom to challenge, inspire and hangout.

The result was a space worthy of 21st century makers. A physical representation of craft and workmanship, a central ‘working wall’ connects the flexi-workspaces and becomes a showcase of innovation. The freestanding metal structure runs through the space with suspended benches that can be moved around for flexibility. It is fully loaded with a tool set of components to adapt and transform the wall to allow people to ‘build’ their own display to suit the activity; from client pitches, pins ups to creative reviews. The space feels like an extension of the building but comes with its own edgy make-shift feel.
