Meet the team: Miruna

We would like to introduce you to Miruna Stroescu who recently joined us as an Interior Designer! She will be working across projects to support our growing team, bringing her enthusiasm for psychology and passion for designing for people’s needs and well-being.
We asked Miruna a few questions to help you all get to know her a bit better.
Tell us a little bit about you, your background and your role at spacelab_?
I studied Interior Design at Falmouth University and recently started as a Junior Interior Designer at spacelab_, which is my first role post-graduation and an exciting opportunity to learn and grow alongside the team! I have a strong interest in psychology, I love dancing and all things crafty, losing myself in a good story and travelling, for the opportunity to experience new perspectives, languages and cultures.
What inspires you?
While I believe inspiration comes in many forms, I am most often inspired by the desire to create spaces that serve the end user, learning about their particular needs and catering to them. Other times, it's something as small as the way a piece of furniture or finish makes me feel, the combination of its geometry, colour and texture and how it engages my senses.
What do you like the most about your work?
My favourite aspect of interior design is how the quality of space can impact our productivity and well-being, which ultimately influences our actions. I enjoy the process of exploring different creative solutions and the many iterations of the design that follow, in an attempt to find something that ticks all the boxes. Knowing that I am playing a part in creating these spaces is a thrilling experience on its own!
What would your ideal project be?
The projects I completed during my studies had a focus on collaborative community spaces aiming to bring people together and provide them with opportunities for self-development. With that in mind, I would love to work on a project within the education sector, with the goal of creating a space that acts as more than a backdrop to the functional activities and services required, but which instead is intended to play a dynamic and active role in supporting the development of the students.
What made you want to join the spacelab_?
The flexibility, culture and warmth of the team at spacelab_ is unlike any environment I've experienced before, and it was bound to win me over!
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?
Where do I begin? I would have to say the most important thing I would change is the approach to education and early development, creating a system that supports the exploration of skills and interests, as well as self-discovery, emotional and mental health. I also believe it's important to take into account individual learning styles and personalities and have an open approach to information sharing and ease of access to resources, especially during our final years of education as we begin our careers.
